US iron and steel scrap exports up 21.7 percent in March

According to the latest figures from the US International Trade Commission, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled 1,436,766 mt in March 2019, a 21.7 percent increase month-on-month but a 3.6 percent decrease year-on-year.

Turkey was the largest recipient of US iron and scrap exports in March with 371,985 mt, up 24.8 percent month-on-month and up 7.3 percent year-on-year. Other notable destinations in March 2019 include: Taiwan, with 184,407 mt; Mexico, with 114,600 mt; Malaysia, with 111,141 mt; and Vietnam, with 80,973 mt.

In terms of value, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled $455.9 million in March 2019, a 24.3 percent increase compared to February but a 16.1 percent decrease compared to March 2018.
