According to the latest figures from the US International Trade Commission, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled 1,752,119 mt in May 2019, an 18.6 percent increase month-on-month and a 3.3 percent increase year-on-year.
Turkey was the largest recipient of US iron and scrap exports in May with 341,653 mt, up 69.8 percent month-on-month and up 35.3 percent year-on-year. Other notable destinations in May 2019 include: Canada, with 258,505 mt; Korea, with 160,524 mt; Mexico, with 143,295 mt; and Taiwan, with 140,880 mt.
In terms of value, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled $523.2 million in May 2019, a 15.1 percent increase compared to April but an 11.5 percent decrease compared to May 2018.
