US iron and steel scrap exports up 17.6 percent in May

According to the latest figures from the US International Trade Commission, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled 1,399,638 mt in May 2020, a 17.6 percent increase month-on-month and a 20.1 percent decrease year-on-year.

Turkey was the largest recipient of US iron and scrap exports in May with 297,816 mt, up 21.0 percent month-on-month but down 12.8 percent year-on-year. Other notable destinations in May include: Bangladesh, with 274,640 mt; Taiwan, with 146,739 mt; Mexico, with 131,005 mt; and Canada, with 129,948 mt.

In terms of value, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled $352.7 million in May 2020, a 12.2 percent increase compared to April and a 32.6 percent decrease compared to May 2019.
