US iron and steel scrap exports up 14.6 percent in January

According to the latest figures from the US International Trade Commission, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled 1,554,240 mt in January 2020, a 14.6 percent increase month-on-month and a 57.1 percent increase year-on-year.

Malaysia was the largest recipient of US iron and scrap exports in January with 372,829 mt, surging up 774.6 percent month-on-month and 490.2 percent year-on-year. Other notable destinations in January include: Turkey, with 343,184 mt; Taiwan, with 144,569 mt; Mexico, with 132,583 mt; and Bermuda, with 80,035 mt.

In terms of value, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled $394.7 million in January 2020, a 9.6 percent decrease compared to December and a 24.2 percent increase compared to January 2019.
