US iron and steel scrap exports rise 33.9 percent in February

According to the latest figures from the US International Trade Commission, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled 1,504,200 mt in February 2018, a 33.9 percent increase month-on-month and an 18.8 percent increase year-on-year.

Turkey was the largest recipient of US iron and scrap exports in February with 324,571 mt, which increased 5.3 percent month-on-month but decreased 8.7 percent year-on-year. Other notable destinations in February 2018 include: Mexico, with 220,038 mt; Taiwan, with 155,301 mt; Vietnam, with 111,569 mt; and China, with 98,604 mt.

In terms of value, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled $549.9 million in February 2018, a 47.6 percent increase compared to January and a 51.4 percent increase compared to February 2017.
