US iron and steel scrap exports drop 24.7 percent in June

According to the latest figures from the US International Trade Commission, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled 1,253,657 mt in June 2018, a 24.7 percent decrease month-on-month and a 1.2 percent decrease year-on-year.

Mexico was the largest recipient of US iron and scrap exports in June with 154,151 mt, which dropped 30.1 percent month-on-month and decreased 17.2 percent year-on-year. Other notable destinations in June 2018 include: Taiwan, with 149,908 mt; Turkey, with 146,727 mt; Canada, with 130,277 mt; and Korea, with 129,212 mt.

In terms of value, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled $442.9 million in June 2018, a 23.3 percent decrease compared to May but a 14.9 percent increase compared to June 2017.
