US iron and steel scrap exports drop 24 percent in December

According to the latest figures from the US International Trade Commission, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled 1,238,157 mt in December, a 24.0 percent decrease month-on-month and a 0.6 percent decrease year-on-year.

Turkey was the largest recipient of US iron and scrap exports in December with 368,795 mt, which decreased 7.9 percent month-on-month and increased 23.5 percent year-on-year. Other notable destinations in December include: Vietnam, with 140,305 mt; Taiwan, with 133,751 mt; Canada, with 85,618 mt; and Korea, with 61,499 mt.

In terms of value, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled $422.2 million in December, a 19.7 percent decrease compared to November and an 11.3 percent increase compared to December 2016.
