US iron and steel scrap exports down 37.1 percent in September

According to the latest figures from the US International Trade Commission, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled 1,177,392 mt in September 2020, a 37.1 percent decrease month-on-month and a 6.2 percent decrease year-on-year.

Malaysia was the largest recipient of US iron and scrap exports in September with 194,821 mt, down 14.8 percent month-on-month but up 193.2 percent year-on-year. Other notable destinations in September include: Turkey, with 189,142 mt; Bangladesh, with 169,375 mt; Mexico, with 137,660 mt; and Taiwan, with 105,963 mt.

In terms of value, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled $342.2 million in September 2020, 31.8 percent decrease compared to August and a 5.8 percent decrease compared to September 2019.
