US iron and steel scrap exports down 20.5% in January-July

According to the statistics released by the US International Trade Commission (US ITC), in July this year exports of iron and steel scrap from the US amounted to 1.24 million mt, decreasing by 1.77 percent from June, but up 4.38 percent compared to July 2013. The value of these exports decreased by 1.4 percent compared to June and increased by 5.7 percent year on year, amounting to $518.7 million.

Meanwhile, in the January-July period of this year, exports of iron and steel scrap from the US totaled 8.84 million mt, decreasing by 20.55 percent year on year.

In July, Turkey was the leading scrap export destination of the US, importing 302,469 mt, decreasing by 0.6 percent compared to June and indicating an 18 percent decline year on year. Turkey was followed by Taiwan and Thailand, which respectively received 189,045 mt and 150,475 mt of scrap from the US in the given month. Meanwhile, Turkey was also the leading scrap export destination of the US in the first seven months, receiving 2.08 million mt, down 32.7 percent year on year.
