US iron and steel scrap exports down 1.8 percent in March

According to the latest figures from the US International Trade Commission, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled 1,409,989 mt in March 2020, a 1.8 percent decrease month-on-month and a 1.9 percent decrease year-on-year.

Turkey was the largest recipient of US iron and scrap exports in March with 444,587 mt, up 101.1 percent month-on-month and up 19.5 percent year-on-year. Other notable destinations in March include: Mexico, with 192,788 mt; Malaysia, with 157,554 mt; Taiwan, with 142,272 mt; and Korea, with 67,284 mt.

In terms of value, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled $388.2 million in March 2020, a 7.2 percent decrease compared to February and a 14.9 percent decrease compared to March 2019.
