US HRC imports rise 3.7 percent in October

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot rolled sheets totaled 161,671 mt in October 2017, up 3.7 percent from September but down 18.9 percent from October 2016 levels. By value, HRC imports totaled $107.9 million in October 2017, compared to $99.3 million in the previous month and $111.8 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most HRC from Canada in October, with 78,796 mt, compared to 61,393 mt in September and 65,842 mt in October 2016. Other top sources of imported HRC in October include Korea, with 25,215 mt; Germany, with 11,963 mt; Netherlands, with 9,464 mt; Mexico, with 9,334 mt; and Italy, with 7,497 mt.
