US HRC imports rise 29.7 percent in June

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot rolled sheets totaled 207,291 mt in June 2017, up 29.7 percent from May and up 2.3 percent from June 2016 levels. By value, HRC imports totaled $127.8 million in June 2017, compared to $105.5 million in the previous month and $105.8 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most HRC from Canada in June, with 64,168 mt, compared to 77,667 mt in May and 82,802 mt in June 2016. Other top sources of imported HRC in June include Korea, with 27,386 mt; Japan, with 26,225 mt; Serbia, with 16,903 mt; Turkey, with 13,003 mt; and Egypt, with 12,460 mt.
