US hot rolled bar imports up 25.9 percent in November

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot rolled bar totaled 68,367 mt in November 2019, up 25.9 percent from October but down 30.8 percent from November 2018 levels. By value, hot rolled bar imports totaled $59.2 million in November 2019, compared to $50.9 million in the previous month and $92.7 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most hot rolled bar from Canada in November, with 21,351 mt, compared to 26,868 mt in October and 31,131 mt in November 2018. Other top sources of imported hot rolled bar in November include Japan, with 15,984 mt; France, with 7,033 mt; Mexico, with 5,471 mt; and Czech Republic, with 3,941 mt.
