US hot rolled bar imports up 14.7 percent in July

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot rolled bar totaled 67,885 mt in July 2019, up 14.7 percent from June but down 17.0 percent from July 2018 levels. By value, hot rolled bar imports totaled $63.8 million in July 2019, compared to $54.1 million in the previous month and $77.7 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most hot rolled bar from Canada in July, with 24,874 mt, compared to 22,275 mt in June and 35,601 mt in July 2018. Other top sources of imported hot rolled bar in July include Japan, with 14,400 mt; Germany, with 5,284 mt; France, with 4,749 mt; and Mexico, with 4,429 mt.
