US hot rolled bar imports down 1.9 percent in October

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot rolled bar totaled 54,299 mt in October 2019, down 1.9 percent from September and down 39.2 percent from October 2018 levels. By value, hot rolled bar imports totaled $50.9 million in October 2019, compared to $49.1 million in the previous month and $83.7 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most hot rolled bar from Canada in October, with 26,868 mt, compared to 28,575 mt in September and 30,186 mt in October 2018. Other top sources of imported hot rolled bar in October include Japan, with 10,307 mt; Mexico, with 6,780 mt; China, with 3,353 mt; and Germany, with 2,265 mt.
