US hot rolled bar imports down 11.6 percent in February

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot rolled bar totaled 49,521 mt in February 2020, down 11.6 percent from January and down 13.9 percent from February 2019 levels. By value hot rolled bar imports totaled $44.0 million in February 2020, compared to $48.8 million in the previous month and $56.4 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most hot rolled bar from Canada in February, with 25,796 mt, compared to 26,487 mt in January and 21,050 mt in February 2019. Other top sources of imported hot rolled bar in February include Japan, with 11,541 mt; Mexico, with 4,068 mt; China, with 2,931 mt; and Germany, with 2,031 mt.
