US hot rolled bar exports up 3.8 percent in May

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of hot rolled bar totaled 25,589 mt in May 2019, up 3.8 percent from April but down 44.3 percent from May 2018 levels. By value, hot rolled bar exports totaled $33.9 million in May, compared to $31.9 million in the previous month and $52.2 million the same month last year.

The US shipped the most hot rolled bar to Mexico in May with 16,071 mt, compared to 13,284 mt in April and 18,866 mt in May 2018. Other top destinations included Canada, with 8,415 mt. There were no other major destinations (1,000 mt or more) for US export hot rolled bar in May.
