US hot rolled bar exports drop 8.3 percent in April

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of hot rolled bar totaled 45,364 mt in April 2018, down 8.3 percent from March but up 27.2 percent from April 2017 levels. By value, hot rolled bar exports totaled $49.8 million in April, compared to $49.9 million in the previous month and $37.8 million the same month last year.

The US shipped the most hot rolled bar to Canada in April with 24,296 mt, compared to 29,858 mt in March and 16,643 mt in April 2017. Other top destinations included Mexico, with 17,880 mt; and Vietnam, with 1,473 mt. There were no other significant destinations (1,000 mt or more) for US hot rolled bar exports in April.
