US hot rolled bar exports down 0.8 percent in January

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of hot rolled bar totaled 23,274 mt in January 2019, down 0.8 percent from December and down 35.7 percent from January 2018 levels. By value, hot rolled bar exports totaled $29.2 million in January, compared to $27.8 million in the previous month and $38.5 million the same month last year.

The US shipped the most hot rolled bar to Mexico in January with 12,714 mt, compared to 14,698 mt in December and 17,429 mt in January 2018. Other top destinations included Canada, with 9,457 mt. There were no other significant destinations (1,000 mt or more) for US hot rolled bar exports in January.
