US HDG imports up 6.1 percent in October

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip totaled 235,763 mt in October 2018, up 6.1 percent from September but down 1.3 percent from October 2017 levels. By value, HDG imports totaled $229.8 million in October 2018, compared to $217.7 million in the previous month and $222.5 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most HDG from Canada in October, with 70,614 mt, compared to 70,794 mt in September and 73,702 mt in October 2017. Other top sources of imported HDG in October include Vietnam, with 44,971 mt; UAE, with 16,964 mt; Taiwan, with 15,903 mt; Turkey, with 13,135 mt; and South Africa, with 12,368 mt.
