According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip totaled 247,016 mt in June 2018, up 5.7 percent from May but down 9.9 percent from June 2017 levels. By value, HDG imports totaled $231.2 million in June 2018, compared to $229.0 million in the previous month and $248.1 million in the same month last year.
The US imported the most HDG from Canada in June, with 80,792 mt, compared to 97,516 mt in May and 70,709 mt in June 2017. Other top sources of imported HDG in June include Vietnam, with 62,762 mt; UAE, with 16,191 mt; Turkey, with 11,228 mt; Taiwan, with 10,017 mt; and Australia, with 7,625 mt.
