US HDG imports up 2.5 percent in May

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot dipped galvanized sheet and strip (HDG) totaled 124,111 mt in May 2020, up 2.5 percent from April but down 36.4 percent from May 2019 levels. By value, HDG imports totaled $110.2 million in May 2020, compared to $105.8 million in the previous month and $185.1 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most HDG from Canada in May, with 25,969 mt, compared to 22,558 mt in April and 67,998 mt in May 2019. Other top sources of imported HDG in May include Korea, with 19,706 mt; Brazil, with 15,594 mt; Taiwan, with 14,750 mt; and Mexico, with 8,667 mt.
