US HDG imports up 24.4 percent in April

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip totaled 317,441 mt in April 2018, up 24.4 percent from March and up 5.9 percent from April 2017 levels. By value, HDG imports totaled $289.1 million in April 2018, compared to $237.4 million in the previous month and $256.2 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most HDG from Canada in April, with 97,650 mt, compared to 87,878 mt in March and 73,950 mt in April 2017. Other top sources of imported HDG in April include Russia, with 45,563 mt; Vietnam, with 27,846 mt; Turkey, with 25,689 mt; Korea, with 19,156 mt; and Brazil, with 18,153 mt.
