US HDG imports up 17.8 percent in July

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip totaled 190,960 mt in July 2019, up 17.8 percent from June but down 17.9 percent from July 2018 levels. By value, HDG imports totaled $182.1 million in July 2019, compared to $156.2 million in the previous month and $232.5 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most HDG from Canada in July, with 71,582 mt, compared to 63,049 mt in June and 83,625 mt in July 2018. Other top sources of imported HDG in July include Brazil, with 16,205 mt; Vietnam, with 13,672 mt; Taiwan, with 13,311 mt; and South Africa, with 13,228 mt.
