US HDG imports up 13 percent in October

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip totaled 201,132 mt in October 2019, up 13.0 percent from September but down 14.8 percent from October 2018 levels. By value, HDG imports totaled $189.9 million in October 2019, compared to $168.0 million in the previous month and $211.1 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most HDG from Canada in October, with 85,428 mt, compared to 87,812 mt in September and 70,614 mt in October 2018. Other top sources of imported HDG in October include Brazil, with 24,939 mt; Korea, with 20,826 mt; South Africa, with 12,434 mt; and Mexico, with 12,204 mt.
