US HDG imports rise 3.4 percent in March

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of HDG sheets and strip totaled 242,180 mt in March 2017, up 3.4 percent from February and up 14.5 percent from March 2016 levels. By value, HDG imports totaled $210.4 million in March 2017, compared to $198.8 million in the previous month and $155.2 million in the same month last year.
 
The US imported the most HDG from Canada in March, with 74,658 mt, compared to 75,561 mt in February and 71,739 mt in March 2016. Other top sources of imported HDG in March include Taiwan, with 18,892 mt; Korea, with 17,434 mt; Brazil, with 17,302 mt; India, with 15,873 mt; and Vietnam, with 14,215 mt.
