US HDG imports down 6.6 percent in July

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip totaled 232,713 mt in July 2018, down 6.6 percent from June and down 20.6 percent from July 2017 levels. By value, HDG imports totaled $232.4 million in July 2018, compared to $232.9 million in the previous month and $263.4 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most HDG from Canada in July, with 83,625 mt, compared to 80,792 mt in June and 73,431 mt in July 2017. Other top sources of imported HDG in July include Vietnam, with 33,760 mt; Taiwan, with 19,308 mt; Korea, with 14,395 mt; Austria, with 11,153 mt; and UAE, with 9,804 mt.
