US HDG imports down 4.1 percent in September

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip totaled 177,919 mt in September 2019, down 4.1 percent from August and down 19.9 percent from September 2018 levels. By value, HDG imports totaled $167.9 million in September 2019, compared to $181.7 million in the previous month and $217.7 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most HDG from Canada in September, with 87,812 mt, compared to 77,446 mt in August and 70,794 mt in September 2018. Other top sources of imported HDG in September include Brazil, with 19,717 mt; Taiwan, with 11,367 mt; Vietnam, with 10,163 mt; and Korea, with 9,199 mt.
