US HDG imports down 3.9 percent in August

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip totaled 223,809 mt in August 2018, down 3.9 percent from July and down 19.8 percent from August 2017 levels. By value, HDG imports totaled $224.8 million in August 2018, compared to $232.7 million in the previous month and $250.0 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most HDG from Canada in August, with 82,065 mt, compared to 83,625 mt in July and 79,803 mt in August 2017. Other top sources of imported HDG in August include Vietnam, with 24,119 mt; Korea, with 20,206 mt; UAE, with 16,150 mt; Taiwan, with 11,845 mt; and Austria, with 9,352 mt.
