US HDG imports down 35.5 percent in April

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot dipped galvanized sheets totaled 120,403 mt in April 2020, down 35.5 percent from March and down 44.2 percent from April 2019 levels. By value HDG imports totaled $105.3 million in April 2020, compared to $169.7 million in the previous month and $205.2 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most HDG from Brazil in April, with 32,028 mt, compared to 7,539 mt in March and 28,073 mt in April 2019. Other top sources of imported HDG in April include Canada, with 22,558 mt; Korea, with 14,722 mt; Taiwan, with 11,131 mt; and Mexico, with 7,459 mt.
