US HDG imports down 27.2 percent in February

According to delayed final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip totaled 179,438 mt in February 2019, down 27.2 percent from January and down 8.3 percent from February 2018 levels. By value, HDG imports totaled $173.2 million in February 2018, compared to $238.9 million in the previous month and $185.2 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most HDG from Canada in February, with 62,082 mt, compared to 68,640 mt in January and 75,013 mt in February 2018. Other top sources of imported HDG in February include Mexico, with 13,456 mt; Vietnam, with 13,371 mt; Korea, with 13,138 mt; UAE, with 13,025 mt; and Brazil, with 11,818 mt.
