US HDG imports down 17.2 percent in June

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip totaled 161,660 mt in June 2019, down 17.2 percent from May and down 35.1 percent from June 2018 levels. By value, HDG imports totaled $155.9 million in June 2019, compared to $185.1 million in the previous month and $232.9 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most HDG from Canada in June, with 63,049 mt, compared to 67,998 mt in May and 80,792 mt in June 2018. Other top sources of imported HDG in June include Korea, with 18,993 mt; Vietnam, with 11,380 mt; Taiwan, with 10,393 mt; and Mexico, with 8,780 mt.
