US HDG imports down 13.6 percent in September

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip totaled 241,112 mt in September 2017, down 13.6 percent from August and down 0.5 percent from September 2016 levels. By value, HDG imports totaled $219.1 million in September 2017, compared to $250.0 million in the previous month and $190.9 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most HDG from Canada in September, with 73,394 mt, compared to 79,803 mt in August and 80,099 mt in September 2016. Other top sources of imported HDG in September include Turkey, with 27,470 mt; Brazil, with 21,082 mt; Korea, with 20,616 mt; United Arab Emirates, with 13,881 mt; and Taiwan, with 11,109 mt.
