US HDG exports up 49.1 percent in January

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip totaled 114,886 mt in January 2019, up 49.1 percent from December and up 8.6 percent from January 2018 levels. By value, HDG exports totaled $129.8 million in January, compared to $87.5 million in the previous month and $110.0 million the same month last year.

The US shipped the most HDG to Canada in January with 66,576 mt, compared to 40,281 mt in December and 65,066 mt in January 2018. Other top destinations included Mexico, with 45,950 mt; and Italy, with 1,210 mt. There were no other significant destinations (1,000 mt or more) for US HDG exports in January.
