US HDG exports down 23.8 percent in May

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip totaled 29,852 mt in May 2020, down 23.8 percent from April and down 71.7 percent from May 2019 levels. By value, HDG exports totaled $29.3 million in May, compared to $39.9 million in the previous month and $120.5 million the same month last year.

The US shipped the most HDG to Mexico in May with 15,168 mt, compared to 31,631 mt in April and 45,211 mt in May 2019. Other top destinations included Canada, with 12,943 mt. There were no other significant destinations (1,000 mt or more) for US HDG exports in May.
