US Freight TSI increased 3.9 percent in December

According to a report Wednesday from the US Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS), the amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry--the Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI)--rose 3.9 percent in December compared to November.

For the full year 2011, the TSI rose 6.4 percent--the highest annual mark since 2002 and the third consecutive year with an increase. Year-on-year, December 2011 freight shipments increased 6.4 percent from December 2010.
