US drawn wire imports up 4.7 percent in April

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of drawn wire totaled 54,616 mt in April 2019, up 4.7 percent from March but down 14.3 percent from April 2018 levels. By value, drawn wire imports totaled $65.3 million in April 2019, compared to $62.2 million in the previous month and $74.2 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most drawn wire from Mexico in April, with 13,177 mt, compared to 14,262 mt in March and 16,299 mt in April 2018. Other top sources of imported drawn wire in April include China, with 12,151 mt; Canada, with 9,769 mt; Korea, with 4,181 mt; and Japan, with 3,485 mt.
