US drawn wire imports up 31.9 percent in January

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of drawn wire totaled 51,359 mt in January 2020, up 31.9 percent from December but down 8.6 percent from January 2019 levels. By value, drawn wire imports totaled $61.8 million in January 2020, compared to $46.3 million in the previous month and $69.1 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most drawn wire from Mexico in January, with 16,737 mt, compared to 11,316 mt in December and 11,350 mt in January 2019. Other top sources of imported drawn wire in January include Canada, with 12,767 mt; China, with 6,944 mt; Korea, with 4,301 mt; and Japan, with 2,776 mt.
