US domestic raw steel production down 0.8 percent week on week

According to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), in the week ending on December 8, 2018, domestic raw steel production in the US totaled 1,701,888 mt, while the capability utilization rate was 80.0 percent.

Production was 1,520,450 mt in the week ending December 8, 2017, while the capability utilization rate was 71.9 percent. The current week production represents an 11.9 percent increase from the same period in the previous year. Production for the week ending December 8, 2018 is down 0.8 percent from the previous week ending December 1, 2018, when production was 1,716,413 mt and the capability utilization rate was 80.7 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through December 8, 2018 was 73,578,927 mt, at a capability utilization rate of 78.2 percent. That is up 5.9 percent from the 69,506,755 mt during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 74.0 percent.
