US cut-length plate imports up 16.9 percent in August

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of cut-length plate totaled 41,678 mt in August 2018, up 16.9 percent from July but down 35.1 percent from August 2017 levels. By value, cut-length plate imports totaled $37.8 million in August 2018, compared to $34.1 million in the previous month and $46.9 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most cut-length plate from Korea in August, with 24,573 mt, compared to 10,002 mt in July and 21,102 mt in August 2017. Other top sources of imported cut-length plate in August include Canada, with 10,137 mt; Mexico, with 1,944 mt; Finland, with 1,577 mt; and Sweden, with 1,575 mt.
