US cut-length plate imports down 37.7 percent in August

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of cut-length plate totaled 31,533 mt in August 2019, down 37.7 percent from July and down 24.3 percent from August 2018 levels. By value, cut-length plate imports totaled $29.9 million in August 2019, compared to $44.5 million in the previous month and $37.8 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most cut-length plate from Canada in August, with 14,402 mt, compared to 11,305 mt in July and 10,137 mt in August 2018. Other top sources of imported cut-length plate in August include Korea, with 9,356 mt; Finland, with 1,914 mt; Sweden, with 1,611 mt; and Belgium, with 1,492 mt.
