US cut-length plate imports down 36.3 percent in January

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of cut-length plate totaled 22,580 mt in January 2020, down 36.3 percent from December and down 63.9 percent from January 2019 levels. By value cut-length plate imports totaled $19.0 million in January 2020, compared to $33.4 million in the previous month and $55.5 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most cut-length plate from Canada in January, with 12,053 mt, compared to 12,271 mt in December and 9,531 mt in January 2019. Other top sources of imported cut-length plate in January include Korea, with 5,575 mt; Italy, with 1,388 mt; and Mexico, with 1,137 mt.
