US cut-length plate exports drop in December, rise in full-year 2017

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of cut-length plate totaled 87,194 mt in December, down 5.3 percent from November and down 2.8 percent from December 2016 levels. By value, cut-length plate exports totaled $77.4 million in December, compared to $86.1 million in the previous month and $72.2 million the same month last year.
The US shipped the most cut-length plate to Canada in December with 46,390 mt, compared to 51,708 mt in November and 50,422 mt in December 2016. Other top destinations included Mexico, with 33,246 mt; Sweden, with 2,850 mt; and Peru, with 1,056 mt.

For the full-year 2017, US cut-length plate exports totaled 1,086,627 mt, up 3.3 percent compared to 2016. By value, US cut-length plate exports totaled $1.02 billion, compared to $913.8 million in 2016.

The US shipped the most cut-length plate to Canada in 2017, with 568,740 mt. Other top destinations included Mexico, with 430,251 mt; Belgium, with 22,518 mt; Sweden, with 13,686 mt; and Brazil, with 8,422 mt.
