US cut-length plate imports up 72.3 percent in January

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of cut-length plate totaled 44,993 mt in January 2023, up 72.3 percent from December and up 9.4 percent from January 2022 levels. By value, cut-length plate imports totaled $71.6 million in January 2023, compared to $40.8 million in December and $62.2 million in January 2022.

The US imported the most cut-length plate from Canada in January, with 20,414 mt, compared to 15,666 mt in December and 15,479 in January 2022. Other top sources of imported cut-length plate in January include France, with 7,759 mt; South Korea, with 7,029 mt; Malaysia, with 3,400 mt; and Mexico, with 1,681 mt.
