US cut length plate imports rise 32.6 percent in July

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of cut length plate totaled 87,402 mt in July 2017, up 32.6 percent from June but down 23.3 percent from July 2016 levels. By value, cut length plate imports totaled $60.9 million in July 2017, compared to $47.6 million in the previous month and $78.5 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most cut length plate from Ukraine in July, with 18,001 mt, compared to 5,767 mt in June and zero tonnage in July 2016. Other top sources of imported cut length plate in July include Korea, with 17,373 mt; Canada, with 14,669 mt; Mexico, with 12,116 mt; Macedonia, with 7,202 mt; and Denmark, with 5,775 mt.
