US crude steel production drops-April 9, 2005

US domestic crude steel production for the week ending April 9, 2005, was 1.89 million net tons with a capacity utilization rate of 83.3%. Last year's production during the same period was 2.08 million net tons at a capacity utilization rate of 93.3%. The past week's production represents a 9.1% year-on-year decrease. Production for the week ending April 9, 2005, dropped 6.8% from the previous week, when production was 2.03 million net tons at a capacity utilization rate of 89.4%. Year-to-date production through April 9, 2005, was 28.7 million net tons at a capacity utilization rate of 89.6%. That is a 0.7% increase from the 28.9 million net tons during the same period last year.
