US CRC imports fall 2.5 percent in May

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of cold rolled sheets totaled 188,803 mt in May 2017, down 2.5 percent from April but up 31.9 percent from May 2016 levels. By value, CRC imports totaled $144.8 million in May 2017, compared to $145.5 million in the previous month and $93.2 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most CRC from Russia in May, with 33,787 mt, compared to 47,192 mt in April and zero tonnage in May 2016. Other top sources of imported CRC in May include Turkey, with 27,975 mt; Canada, with 26,804 mt; Mexico, with 16,400 mt; Australia, with 13,800 mt; and Korea, with 10,764 mt.
