US CRC imports drop 10.8 percent in January

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of cold rolled sheets totaled 144,777 mt in January 2018, down 10.8 percent from December and down 29.8 percent from January 2017 levels. By value, CRC imports totaled $114.3 million in January 2018, compared to $120.4 million in the previous month and $147.5 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most CRC from Canada in January, with 31,751 mt, compared to 25,204 mt in December and 29,156 mt in January 2017. Other top sources of imported CRC in January include Vietnam, with 20,062 mt; Mexico, with 17,052 mt; Turkey, with 16,298 mt; Australia, with 10,908 mt; and Korea, with 7,585 mt.
