US CRC imports down 15.6 percent in May

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of cold rolled sheets totaled 113,344 mt in May 2019, down 15.6 percent from April and down 30.1 percent from May 2018 levels. By value, CRC imports totaled $94.2 million in May 2019, compared to $105.6 million in the previous month and $139.1 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most CRC from Canada in May, with 30,979 mt, compared to 26,219 mt in April and 36,782 mt in May 2018. Other top sources of imported CRC in May include Mexico, with 18,758 mt; Australia, with 17,134 mt; Sweden, with 8,812 mt; and Vietnam, with 8,725 mt.
