US CRC imports down 14.6 percent in September

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of cold rolled sheets totaled 179,316 mt in September 2017, down 14.6 percent from August but up 5.9 percent from September 2016 levels. By value, CRC imports totaled $136.8 million in September 2017, compared to $158.2 million in the previous month and $119.7 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most CRC from Russia in September, with 39,877 mt, compared to 32,723 mt in August and zero tonnage in September 2016. Other top sources of imported CRC in September include Canada, with 25,448 mt; Turkey, with 21,323 mt; Mexico, with 18,701 mt; Korea, with 11,011 mt; and Germany, with 10,663 mt.
